Service Description: 6 month Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) over Europe for the period Spring - Summer 2010. ECA&D data - the station-based indices were used to produce gridded fields of SPI by averaging together the available station index values within each 2x2 degree grid cell. This SPI evaluates rainfall lack or surplus over six months compared to the long-term average, expressed as standard deviations. As the SPI is based on information about the distribution of precipitation in a particular area, it automatically takes account of differences between climatologically dry and wet areas.\n\nData source:
