description: This dataset contains the boundaries of cities, greater cities and functional urban areas, defined according to the EC-OECD city definition and used for the Eurostat Urban Audit data collection. This dataset contains revisions up to the 1st January 2015. The cities are defined at several conceptual levels: - the core city, using an administrative definition the Functional Urban Area/Large Urban Zone (FUA), approximating the functional urban region and for 8 capitals, the City Kernel, a concept introduced to improve comparability between large cities. Geometry was derived from Eurogeographics Euroboundarymap (EBM) for a number of reference years. The coverage is the EU-28 plus Iceland (IS), Norway (NO) and Switzerland (CH). The dataset includes polygon, point and attribute table which can be joined on the URAU code field.
